A U.S. District Court judge has decided to enforce the settlement that Facebook and would-be rival ConnectU signed in February, rejecting the ConnectU founders’ claims of fraud.
The legal battle between the two social-networking sites has gone on since 2004, when ConnectU founders Cameron Winklevoss, Tyler Winklevoss, and Divya …

Love by Cartier, an ad campaign that's not exactly for the emo-teen demographic.
When you consider “bling” on MySpace, you probably consider glitter text on profiles, or maybe Swarovski-studded Sidekicks, not Cartier jewelry. But that hasn’t stopped the legendary luxury brand from launching a promotional …

MySpace's Data Availability logo.
MySpace is set to release on Thursday the application programming interface (API) for Data Availability, a developer project that the News Corp.-owned social network announced in early May. Through Data Availability, participating social sites can let users synchronize accounts with MySpace profiles, importing public profile data like pics, interests, and friend lists.
Data Availability’s formal launch partners are Yahoo, eBay, Twitter, and News Corp.’s Photobucket, but with the release of the API, any third-party site can have access to it. Authentication is handled through the OAUTH open standard, and controls have been configured so that a high level of coding expertise is not required.
“Our users spend hours updating and making changes to their profiles, uploading content, and building friend relationships,” a post on the MySpace developer blog explained. “With your help that data can now be available to MySpace users no matter where they go on the Internet.”
But MySpace’s project isn’t the only one of its kind: rival Facebook has extended its existing API to encompass data portability in the form of “Facebook Connect,” and Google has a new project called Friend Connect designed to bring social credentials to otherwise non-social Web sites.

Like polls? Check out Poll Authority, a new poll host that lets you create some really clean looking polls with relative simplicity. It offers many of the features the popular Poll Daddy does but at a lower cost for its pro service which runs at $8 a month. Stripped out are surveys, meaning you’re limited to just polls, but it’s set up to let you create one in less than a minute which is impressive.
Also included in the pro accounts is vote analysis, which lets you drill down and see where your voters are coming from as well as a time lines and charts that can either be exported or subscribed to through various feeds.
Out of all its features though, the built-in themes are worth the most attention because they’re simple and well done. You can stretch out each poll to whatever width you want and drop in your own CSS to have it match your site.
Like Poll Daddy’s answers section, Poll Authority gives you the option to make your polls public to everyone. Each poll will get its own special page where anyone can view the results and discuss. If you’re looking for pure audience, Poll Daddy’s got the edge with more users. A Poll Authority poll I put up earlier didn’t get many outside votes, whereas ones I’ve done on the past with Poll Daddy get a good segment of voters who end up there from Poll Daddy’s answers page alone.
Poll Authority isn’t quite as advanced with handling media as some other tools I’ve seen. For instance Polls Boutique, which I looked at back in April lets you drop in a video for each question whereas Poll Authority only allows for one. I think most people will be more than okay with this, but it’s always nice to have the option.
Poll Authority joins a slew of other services competing for user votes and traffic. See also: Quibblo, CircleUp, Toluna, StrawPoll and Twitpoll.

While Apple is greening up its laptops, it isn’t spitting out solar products yet. So, taking up the call, QuickerTek has put out an awesome new product specifically for Macophiliacs. Fitting the MacBook, a foldable sheet of thin-film solar cells can charge up your laptop for free — well, after you shell out the big bucks for the product.
Depending on how fast you want your battery recharged (and how much you have to spend), you can get an 18-watt panel that takes 14 hours to charge up your MacBook, a 27-watt panel that takes 8 hours, or a 55-watt panel that can get you juiced up in as few as 5 hours.
Now, the sheets range from $500 to $1,000, so I’m not quite sure what the incentive is to use this rather than WAY cheaper plug-in, unless you’ve a massively guilt-ridden eco-conscience or you’re rarely near an outlet, which, let’s face it, is unlikely to be the case if you own a MacBook.
I think the demand for realistically priced (and sized) ways to charge laptops with solar is increasing, so hopefully soon we’ll see more options attached lower price tags.
