Everything in China seems to be advancing at a swift clip and that includes boosting its wind power capacity. China is already ranked fifth in wind-power capacity, pulling over 6 GW, but the country is set to grow even more in the very near future, to 10 GW within the next two years.
Some experts estimate that at the rate China is increasing wind power, the country will reach 20 GW by 2010, and 100 GW by 2020. So, one of the world’s largest emitters of CO2 could have a trick up its sleeve for reducing its carbon footprint.
Focusing on Inner Mongolia, which has the potential to provide 40% of the country’s total wind capacity, China is already adding 960 MW worth of wind towers to the existing 170 MW and has another 4 GW in the planning stage.
Inner Mongolia accounts for 12% of China’s total land mass and is sparsely populated, with an average of only about 52 people per square mile, making it ideal turf for wind towers with little argument potential from the locals, unlike many projects in the U.S.
China isn’t sticking to just land-based farms, either. According to a National Development and Reform Commission plan, Shanghai’s wind power plans include sea-based wind farms, and by 2020, it will have 1 GW of capacity, enough to provide power to 4 million residents.

A look at Google's Android mobile operating system.

Last we heard, we’d be seeing phones powered by Google’s Android open-source software in the second half of 2008. A report Monday from The Wall Street Journal has narrowed that down somewhat: Those handsets will start appearing in the fourth quarter of this year, a later time frame than expected.
And according to the Journal, some handset manufacturers are “struggling” to get Android on track even for a fourth-quarter launch. Sprint Nextel and China Mobile, the world’s largest cell carrier, reportedly won’t be able to put out Android-powered phones until next year. Other carriers, like T-Mobile, claim their Android phones are still on track.
Some developers of mobile applications, on the other hand, have been sidetracked by the announcement of the iPhone 3G, the second-generation version of Apple’s ubiquitous handsets. With a lower price point, a developer kit already released, and a concrete launch date of July 11, not to mention faster Web access and a built-in GPS chip, the appeal of the new iPhone might have pushed Android to the back burner for some companies.

Fandango, the movie-ticketing company owned by Comcast since 2007, announced on Monday that it has acquired Movies.com, a motion picture news and reviews aggregator. Movies.com had previously been owned by Disney’s Walt Disney Internet Group.
Financial details weren’t disclosed.
The aim of the acquisition is to provide a one-stop movie hub for the Web, executives stated.
“We are pleased to expand our rich-entertainment reach through this strategic addition of Movies.com,” Chuck Davis, CEO of Fandango, stated in a statement. The ticketing site currently sells admission to 15,000 theaters in the United Says. “We’ll be able to leverage our combined assets to offer millions of new moviegoers the ideal movie-related information available on the Web.”
