Fandango, the movie-ticketing company owned by Comcast since 2007, announced on Monday that it has acquired Movies.com, a movie news and reviews aggregator. Movies.com had previously been owned by Disney’s Walt Disney Internet Group.

Financial details were not disclosed.

The aim of the acquisition is to provide a one-stop motion picture hub for the Web, executives stated.

“We are pleased to expand our rich-entertainment reach through this strategic addition of Movies.com,” Chuck Davis, CEO of Fandango, stated in a statement. The ticketing site currently sells admission to 15,000 theaters in the United States. “We’ll be able to leverage our combined assets to offer millions of new moviegoers the ideal movie-related information available on the Web.”

As someone who has never owned a automobile, I’ve to admit that I watch all those daily news updates on “pain at the pump” and sometimes think, “Well, ha ha ha, that’s not MY problem.” But then I remember. …

Our sad lot in life is that pretty much everything is made out of oil and oil-related compounds of one kind or another. The Good Human looked at this issue and stated, “In the span of about 100 years, we have successfully made oil scarce enough that we use twice as much energy getting it out of the ground that we get back from it in return. This isn’t a recipe for success. And as oil continues to hit all time highs day in and day out, it is affecting everyone in the same way-prices are on their way up for almost everything we use.”

That’s becoming increasingly obvious. Let me include here a sobering tiny list assembled by The Good Human. All of these things come from oil:

ammonia, anesthetics, antihistamines, artificial limbs, artificial turf, antiseptics, aspirin, auto parts, awnings, balloons, ballpoint pens, bandages, beach umbrellas, boats, cameras, candles, vehicle battery cases, carpets, caulking, combs, cortisones, cosmetics, crayons, credit cards, curtains, deodorants, detergents, dice, disposable diapers, dolls, dyes, eye glasses, electrical wiring insulation, faucet washers, fishing rods, fertilizer, fishing line, fishing lures, food preservatives, food packaging, garden hose, glue, hair coloring, hair curlers, hand lotion, hearing aids, heart valves, ink, insect spray, insecticides, linoleum, lip stick, milk jugs, nail polish, oil filters, pantyhose, perfume, petroleum jelly, rubber cement, rubbing alcohol, shampoo, shoes, toothpaste, trash bags, upholstery, vitamin capsules, water pipes, clothing ink, parachutes, telephones, enamel, epoxy paint, automobile sound insulation, cassettes, motorcycle helmets, pillows, shower doors, refrigerator linings, electrical tape, safety glass, nylon rope, ice buckets, toilet seats, denture adhesive, loudspeakers, motion picture film, candles, water pipes, golf balls, sunglasses, soft contact lenses, footballs, paint brushes, fan belts, luggage, toothbrushes, ice cube trays.

You get the idea.

So while I may be avoiding pain at the pump, we’re all going to feel it at Costco and Sears and Home Depot and. …

In olden days, when you clicked on an e-mail link in your browser, it had to have an e-mail client to launch. That method doesn’t work if you use a service such as Gmail or Yahoo Mail as your main account.

Firefox 3 to the rescue. Watch our video on how to do this tip, then come back here for the written steps.

Go to Tools and options (Firefox and Preferences on a Mac).

Select Applications.

Search “mailto”.

In the drop-down menu Choose Yahoo Mail.

What? You don’t use Yahoo Mail? Thanks to Lifehacker.com for publishing the instructions for how to use Gmail.

Open your Gmail in Firefox.

You’ll need this string of code to enter.

javascript:window.navigator.registerProtocolHandler("mailto","https://mail.google.com/mail/?extsrc=mailto&url=%s","GMail")

Press add application.

And now when you click an e-mail link, it will ask you which Web mail program you’d like to use.
