Earlier this week, I published a post about word of mouth marketing projections for 2008, and I thought I’d follow up on that with a post about online advertising projections for 2008.
According to eMarketer, on the web advertising is expected to grow by 28.5% in 2008 up from 26.8% in 2007. Additionally, spending on paid search advertising is expected to grow by 27.5% in 2008 up from 26.8% in 2007.
Take a look at the table below from eMarketer that outlines their predictions about online advertising spending by format from 2006-2011.

I think one of the most interesting parts of these projections is the expectation that on the web ad spending growth will peak in 2008. Am I reading the table wrong? Could that be accurate? While I definitely think companies should shift on the internet marketing budgets from advertising to social media and viral marketing initiatives, I can’t imagine that on the internet advertising spending growth will peak this year.
What do you consider these predictions?
